New Mexico’s Governor Richardson Repeals Death Penalty, Considers Adding More Serious Crimes to Repertoire

New Mexico Governor and one-time aspiring Presidential nominee Bill Richardson just wasn’t handsome or charming enough, so he had to settle for aspiring to be Secretary of Commerce, but he just didn’t have the integrity or law-following abilities, so he had to settle for heading home to face pay-to-play and other corruption charges and aspiring to be a governor that signs a notable bill in a relatively unnotable state once in a while.
Well, Bill Richardson is back, baby! The gov is receiving accolades from many for his decision to circle back on his previous position on the death penalty and sign a bill recently passed by the legislature in Santa Fe.
But while many are praising Big Bill for seeing the light, part of us is a little worried that Richardson has darker alterior motives. After all, pay-to-play is the schwag-y joint of the white-collar political crime and corruption world – it’s the gateway to the real hard shit.
Today he’s collecting kickbacks from contractors building new playgrounds in Albuquerque, tomorrow he’s calling Roberto the Reaper to order a hit on Walt the Whistleblower. Now that he’s done away with capital punishment, the worst he’d ever see is some time in country club prison – looks like he’s got his bases covered.
Of course if that prison is in New Mexico, he still might catch polio or smallpox or some other potentially deadly disease that’s only still found in the Land of Enchantment.
